Possibly the best hotpot soup in JB – 四大美人锅物 Collagen Beauty Hotpot
Today, wife and I decided to head over to Sutera to try a buffet hotpot dinner called 四大美人锅物Collagen Beauty Hot Pot. Long story short, this accidental discovery resulted in us eating what we think is the best hotpot in JB (Plus it’s the cheapest so far at $39rm NET per head).
This one got story one (if you don’t want to read just scroll down): We came across a hotpot restaurant in Genting called Beauty in a Pot. This one is by SG paradise group. Wanted to eat (good cold weather in Genting is best for eating hotpot!) but the place was fully booked till 1am! So in the end no chance.
JB hotpot eating Pro-tip: Call book in advance. Most joints fully booked de, especially during weekends.
So while walking around Sutera, we came across this 四大美人锅物Collagen Beauty Hot Pot, and mistook it for the Beauty in a Pot. We went in, asked the staff, who told us totally no relation to Beauty in a Pot. Wah seh, we disappointed max but thought since got seat might as well eat.
Lucky we persisted. This hotpot joint has the BEST HOTPOT SOUPS. No kidding. You eat this you will ditch all the haidilaos, upot, beauty in a…you don’t believe, just come down Sutera try.
Okay story end. Now some quick restaurant stats: costs $39rm NET (Net hor no plus plus or GST!) per head. Buffet style hotpot, two soup base choose from 6 choices. Freeflow meat, vegetables, hot pot ingredients, sauces, dessert…the usual JB hotpot style.
四大美人锅物Collagen Beauty Hot Pot is located in Sutera, along Jalan Sutera Tanjung 8/3. Same stretch as Amore Bakery and Tealicious resturant, opposite JWC Cafe and Tian Yuan Dessert Hut. Sutera is quite deep in, 15 minutes drive/Grab from Bukit Indah.
There’s indoor and outdoor seating, if you walk-in, usually only the outdoor seats are available. Naturally no air-con and you have to push open the front door while bring food from inside to your table.
Just call and reserve, inside seats are definitely better. Unlike 霸王自助火锅城 Super Steamboat Restaurant, inside seating can accomodate larger groups (more than 4), you can see lots of people celebrating birthday etc here.
Wife and I got an inside table, staff came by and ask us to select 2 soup base out of the following 6 flavours. We chose pork bone and tom yum. Spoiler: BOTH ARE GOOD! We tried Herbal chicken and Tomato on another separate session, that was good too.
Note: If you choose Sichuan Mala or Milk & Cheese soups, you need to top up $6rm. First time seeing a Milk & Cheese soup base for hotpot, pretty interesting, the staff will give you a huge jug of milk to pour into the soup. Will try that out next time.
The staff will bring a pot, pour both soup and start the fire. It’s induction stove, in the middle of the table, controls to the stove are at the side, under the table.
While the soup is cooking, it’s time to explore all those free flow good stuff. First is the fridge. There’s 2 fridges, one meat and another non-meat stuff. The meat is not bad, got different kinds, though variety is not much.
Non meat stuff also not bad, variety not much though. Basically the two fridge stuff share the same theme: Not bad, not much though.
Beside the fridges is the vegetable rack. GET THE VEGES. Any veges. These are seriously good, like Taiwan level good.
Below the veges are the hotpot ingredients, mostly yong tau foo’ish stuff. GET the white fish slices thingy circled red in the photo below. Other than the soup, this is the second best thing in this restaurant. Really. No regrets, just get it.
Part two of the hotpot ingredients. It’s a very huge chiller box.
Next is the seafood section. You can tell that JB’ians like all those shelly seafood like mussles, la-la, scallop etc. Only non shell seafood is the good ol’ prawns. We dumped prawns into the soup, didn’t touch the shellies.
Another standard food item in hotpot buffet is the lu rou rice (卤肉饭). No exceptions here. Not as good as the Taiwan versions, but definitely better than those in SG.
Sauces section is up next. They have a recipe list telling you how to mix their unique 美人 sauce. Didn’t bother, went for my own rojak sauce version, totally 90% powered by the Sha Char sauce (沙茶醬). Sauces section kinda small, at least smaller than 霸王 Super Steamboat Restaurant.
I give a thumbs up for drinks section because of two things: got hot coffee and ayu jelly boba drink. I’m that simple when it comes to drinks.
There’s ice-cream for dessert, is the scoop yourself from the tubs version. Decent amount of flavours and I prefer this kind as opposed to the potong or cup icecream. Come buffet must give a bit of effort to dig for your food, then the food will be extra sedap.
We gathered all the food(good) stuffs to our table and started cooking. Oh yes. They also supply you with a cup of collagen. That’s why called Collagen Beauty Hot Pot mah. We put the collagen after eating/drinking 75% of the soup.
It made the soup’s texture thicker.
We didn’t like that, so next time we’re going to totally skip this collagen thing.
There’s free refill of the soups and it’s D.I.Y. The refill rack is located at the entrance of the restaurant, you can refill nonstop.
Verdict:
- Best hotpot in JB so far, soup-wise
- Wife LOVED the pork bone soup, I LOVED the herbal chicken soup.
- Variety ok-ok, the best ingredient is the white fish fillet slices.
- Go for the vegetables! It’s sweet and nice.
- Dining time limit of 2 hours per session.
- IMPORTANT NOTE: Call to book in advance, especially on weekends.
- IMPORTANT NOTE 2: In case nobody realizes, most if not all JB hotpot buffet restaurants open in the evening till late night only. So no lunch yeah.
