Buffet hotpot + hotplate combi – 霸王自助火锅城 Super Steamboat Restaurant

Share this:

Today, wife and I tried a unique hotpot cum hotplate-grill style buffet dinner at Super Steamboat Restaurant. It’s super cheap – $39++RM ($42RM to be exact) per head, free-flow buffet dinner with tons of ingredients, cooked food, drinks, ice-cream and dessert. Absolutely value’licious.

The restaurant is located opposite of Bukit Indah Tesco, in the same building cluster as Setia Sales Gallery and Sushi Mentai, off Jalan Indah 15. The restaurant is hidden at the back, we had to walk past Royal Tea and Spice Kitchen, go round the corner, to find it.

Here’s a shot of the main entrance. Really crouching 霸王, hidden hotpot. The carpark is just beside on the left. Lots of parking lots so you don’t need to worry if you’re driving.

There’s indoor and outdoor seating, outdoor has more seats but no air-con. Outdoor seating can seat huge groups (4 – 10 people), can also see your car while eating.

Since its just me and my wife, we opted for the more atas indoor cubicle partitioned seats. The cubicle seats are spacious for two, can comfortably seat four. The grill/hotplate is in the middle of the table.

Indoor seating – Table for 2 – 4

Staff will ask which soup base you want. Can pick two soup base from the following choices:

We chose Tomato and Herbal Soup.

All the food items are at the entrance of the restaurant. There’s ALOT of food. All free flow, buffet style, take as much as you want but don’t waste food hor.

There’s a fridge with all sorts of chilled meat and fish, they even have parmesan cheese (for that secret grilled scallop combo, see below later).

Opps. Forgot to take the meat and fish fridge…This is the other fridge with vegetables, sorry!

There’s an opener chiller section with a huge variety of marinated meat. Pick any orange or yellow colour one, sure won’t go wrong de.

Multinational favours: Korean bulgogi, Satay chicken, Tomyom fish, black pepper beef…

Beside the chiller is the ingredients for the hotpot. Lots of good stuff. Really cannot try everything in one visit. I think need like 3 – 4 sessions…

Crazy but this is the standard selection at most JB hotpot joints.

We tried most of the food and these two items really stand out. They are like dengdeng style bar kwa meat. The red one is very much like the traditional bar kwa (but 100 times better).

The black one is black pepper style bar kwa, my personal favourite. Serious guys. These are the bombs. Can don’t eat anything but these two. Best in the (hotplate) world.

Then there is the cooked food section. Got things like chicken wings, popiah, hor ngiam etc. Can eat these as appetizer while you wait for the hotplate and hotpot food to cook.

Then got 滷肉饭 in this metal pot. It was totally gone in 30minutes. The staffed replaced it with curry chicken. Equally good. There’s also a free flow drinks counter. No coffee though, that’s sad for me.

Lots of seafood here too. Looks like not much in this photo because everyone took tons of seafood to grill/hotpot. Not to worry, it’s constantly being topped up. Everybody went for the prawns and the la-la.

Seafood section is the favourite amongst the diners. Constantly emptied!

The grill is very fantastic because you can really try out different styles of cooking with all the condiments like garlic and sauces. Our personal favourite was the scallop because can grill with the parmesan cheese and/or add sauces to it.

Speaking of sauces, you can see the crazy amount of sauces available in the photo below. Definitely don’t lose to those Taiwan hotpot buffet eateries.

Okay quick video here for everyone to see our cooking in action:

Multi-tasking cooking in session!

There’s also dessert, two boxes of icecream, one potong style and the other cup style.

If you don’t like these two standard type icecream, you can ask the boi-boi counter staff to help you do custom korea style shave snow ice! See boi boi in action here:

Korean Bingsu anyone?

Boi boi also can whip up different flavours of waffles with his waffle machine if ice-cream is not your thing. Waffles are my thing but we eat until bursting at this point so cannot eat liao.

Another video! This time is waffle making action. Someone else ordered the waffle, I just video sniped from behind.

Dedicated waffle maker.
Like Prima Deli waffle yeah?

There’s also deodorants at the payment counter, for you to use to get rid of the grill smell. Attention to detail is do like this one, +1 for you Super Steamboat.

Here’s the charges and other sorts of info. If it’s your birthday, got mystery gift somemore, not bad. JB hotpot buffet scene very competitive, so must chut all sorts of stunts.

Verdict:

  • Go try! Very good and at $42RM, very value for money
  • Super huge variety of food.
  • Soup not as good as 四大美人锅物Collagen Beauty Hot Pot at Sutera, don’t eat too much.
  • Hotplate grill is more fun, eat more of these. Especially the red and black dengdeng ba kwa meat!
  • 2 hours time limit, but should be more than enough to eat.
  • Best to eat in huge groups, then very fun!
  • IMPORTANT: Very popular now, call either of the two numbers below to book in advance.

Rating: 4.1/5
